This is like having a step-by-step manual at your side through all of your writing and publishing needs.

Will be spent writing and revising from your first draft.

The Second (2nd) Two Months

Will be spent writing, revising, and editing your manuscript getting it ready for publication.

The Third (3rd) two Months

All About Self-Publishing Your Work and getting it out in the world.

We will be working on keywords and categories, ISBNs, book covers, and anything we need and you will be given contact information for a very good cover designer,  who is inexpensive, and also the name of a good typesetter.

This class is for those who are serious about their writing and are prepared to work through it all, side by side with me, and be ready to publish before the class ends. Six months of focusing on our work, and each of you with a published book by the end of class.

We are not just doing practice here and then having to work on our writing separate. From the beginning of class, we each have our own work and we move it forward step by step through the process.

My Story

I’m not very good when it comes to writing about myself – tooting my own horn, so to speak. It all sounds so boring, a little flat.

But the basis of all of it is I hold a BA from Vermont College and an MFA from Antioch University Los Angeles with a dual concentration in Fiction and Creative Nonfiction. I am also a certified Creative Writing Instructor and the author of Song of the Earth, a novel said to be ‘a journey into our consciousness, both as a people and as a nation’ which will be re-released this winter. I have been writing since I was 14 years old, when I started a teen column in the county newspaper.

I have a passion, actually two or three or four of them, but we will just talk about this passion for the moment. A passion for exploring the depths of human nature through writing, and to see that look of knowing in my student’s eye, that ‘aha’ moment, when it all comes together into one – when they discover the key to good writing is to open up their ‘emotional center’ where feeling emerges.

By exploring the ‘writer self’ through the essence of nature, my students are able to create characters and a sense of place that brings them alive on the page, rising up from the land as if it/he/she/they were born of the earth.

I have carried my passions with me crisscrossing the country – managing a guest ranch in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona for many years, and then caring for my elderly parents in Missouri while writing each day. After losing my mother in 2014, I packed up my father, and we moved back to Boise. I lost him in the early spring of 2021.

I took some time off, spent a lot of hours hiking in the foothills with the dogs, giving great thought to where my life and my work were taking me. Working with writers fuels my creative spirit, this I know for sure.

Susan's Dogs
A couple of years have gone by, and I lost both of my beloved canines this past year. Harry, my Black Lab, passed at 15.5 and then Ellie, my Golden Retriever, passed just a few months ago at 14.5 years.

I’ve taught more classes and worked with several more writers. Each year brings a deeper understanding of what I am searching for deep in the folds of my being and each morning I wake up to the possibilities.

Editorial Assessment Bonus

"Susan Nunn, my editor, challenged me to dig deeper. All because she believed in me and my story and wanted me to be proud of every word. In the process, I began to believe in myself. She helped me tell this story with my heart leading the way. "
Rebecca Powers
Austin, Texas
“Susan does an amazing job of integrating readings, writing, guided imagery, meditations, interviews and group discussion into a deeply creative experience. This class will help you take your writing process to a new level.”
Marianne C.
Tennessee
“Susan Nunn is the kindest, hardest working editor who does so much more. Over Zoom calls, we worked my book page by page for as long as it took until I felt it was ready for publication. Since my book is about fire investigation true crime, Susan asked many questions about specific terms trying to make sure the general reader would understand my passages. She definitely goes above and beyond and is so knowledgeable. In short, Susan is a professional who is a total pleasure to work with. ”

Here's what you will experience in this course

EACH WEEK WILL CONSIST OF A ONE HOUR Q&A OR LECTURE, A TWO HOUR WRITING SESSION, PRIVATE TIME SCHEDULED AS NEEDED, PLUS WORK ON RUZUKU, OUR LEARNING PLATFORM.

After more than ten years of editing and publishing others’ work, I have come to some strong opinions about writing. One, we don’t hang out in the shallows when you are working with me. We go deep into the current of our creativity. Hanging out in the shallows just delays the process, going around and around, we dive deep into our emotional center where some great writers have discovered the value.

Each of you will send your writing over, and I will read it (THE FIRST SIX (6) WHO SIGN UP IN JANUARY GET AN EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT OF THEIR WORK AND HAVE THE CHOICE TO START EARLY IF THEY DESIRE). We will work together, brain to brain, until we find the path forward that will bring what you are dreaming of to fruition. I will give you many ideas how to complete what you have started, where to explore deeper. Always remember, when I make a suggestion, you may take it and run with it, but more than likely it will spur you forward with your own thoughts. Your writer’s voice is always what drives the work forward, and I make sure it is strong and can carry your work.

Most beginning writers do not understand that when they finish their first draft, it is most generally not ready yet. About 99% of the time, it isn’t ready. We will take it and dig deeper and deeper. I will ask questions that will stir much more thought, and more writing. It is actually a fun process. No criticizing, just writing until we feel it is the best we can do.

There is a lot of work we can do ourselves when it comes to cleaning up our manuscripts. And, that is what we will learn and do during this two month session. I will introduce a self-editing technique and we will practice it during this session. It is extremely helpful.

Self-publishing and getting your work published. Whether you decide to publish yourself, or hire someone to do it for you, still called Self-Publishing, you still need to know and understand the process. And, of course, there are so many little tricks along the way. This includes cover designing, typesetters, and editors. And, I will give you the emails of those we use who do great work and don’t charge a fortune.

I will tell you where it is best to spend extra dollars, and where it isn’t necessary. Being aware of the process helps one make smart decisions.

And we end our six months of writing and revising, editing and publishing with a published book.

Just think how exciting it will be when your first shipment arrives and you see your name as the author on all those beautiful books. It is a feeling like none other.

Throughout the course, students will have opportunities to engage in discussions, receive feedback on their progress, and participate in hands-on exercises related to each topic. I will be doing videos at the beginning of each class. We will discover that things change rapidly, and publishing is one area where we need to “keep up with the Joneses” so to speak, and it isn’t always easy. I will give you information on those you can trust out there to get the best information at all times while on your writing and publishing journey.

Please note that the duration and specific content of each week can be adjusted based on your preferences and the depth you wish to cover in each area.

What Others Are Saying

Over and over again, Susan has demonstrated wisdom, patience, and creativity in her guidance of me during my entire writing practice. She always waited patiently and guided me at just the right moment, always understanding and respecting my writing style, my needs, and my goals. I’m very grateful I found her.
Pam Verner
Susan was so great to work with, knowledgeable, warm, kind, helpful and a lot of fun. She is great at steering an author in the right direction and offering sound advice while holding space for the writer’s creativity to shine forth.
Terra Lynn Joy
Susan is the one who gave me the final push I needed to make my dream of publishing my poetry collection a reality. She is a master of editing and publishing services and is incredibly dedicated to her craft – spending hours bringing your manuscript to life and ready to share with the world.
Grace Gegenheimer
Partnering with Susan to publish, The View from my Chair, was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Susan is an expert editor. She is also blessed with patience, the gift of encouragement and the stamina to go the distance on any project. Because Susan was willing to share her gifts and talents with me, the book we published is more than I could have ever imagined.
